Goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon , who has represented Italy for the past 28 years, is about to retire.

“Buffon has decided to retire. An official announcement will be made soon.”

According to European media, Buffon received an offer from a club in Saudi Arabia, but decided to turn down the offer and end his playing career.

As a result, Buffon, who made his professional debut in 1995 in a Parma (Italy) uniform, will retire from active duty after 28 years.

After six years at Parma, Buffon returned to Juventus (Italy) and Paris Saint-Germain (France) in 2019. Two years later he moved to Parma, a club in Serie B (second division).

Buffon has lifted numerous trophies during that time. He has won 10 Serie A titles with Juventus and topped Ligue 1 with Paris Saint-Germain.

He also played for a long time on the Italian national team, and also experienced a victory at the 2006 World Cup in Germany. At the time, Buffon also won the Yashin Award given to the best goalkeeper.

Buffon was greatly loved by fans for showing his affection for his team as well as his outstanding skills.

He remained with the team even when Juventus was demoted due to match-fixing charges in 2006, and helped Juventus to be promoted in one season. In addition, in 2021, the last year of his playing career, he delighted Parma fans by heading to his home team Parma. Buffon contributed to the team by playing 43 matches for Parma despite his considerable age.
