Borussia Dortmund legend Marco Reus is leaving the team after this season. 

Santi Auna, a transfer market expert at France’s Foot Mercato, said on the 26th (Korea Standard Time) that Royce can leave Dortmund as a free agent after his contract ends in the summer of 2024 

Reus is a German attacking midfielder or winger. Born in Dortmund, North Rhine-Westphalia, Reus played for his hometown team Post SV Dortmund and Dortmund before joining the Dortmund youth team, but was kicked out of the team due to his short stature and thinness and moved to third-tier side Rot Weiss Allen. 

Royce, who played for a lot Vice Allen second team, scored 12 goals in the second team during the 2006-07 season and also scored 14 goals and one assist in the 2007-08 season, playing in the first division from the age of 19. Royce helped the team advance to the second division, and in 2009 signed a four-year contract with Bundesliga side Borussia Mönchengladbach. 

In his first season on the job, Royce played as a rotation member, but after being selected as a right winger, he established himself as a starter by outstanding performances. From the first season, he showed quite a good performance in 35 games with eight goals and three assists, and thanks to that, Royce was also selected for the Germany under-21 national team. In the 2010-11 season, he saved his team from relegation. 

During the 2011-12 season, Mönchengladbach received the highest rating from the German kicker with 18 goals and 11 assists in 32 matches, and Mönchengladbach was promoted with the performances of Reus, Roman Neusteter, Mike Hanke, Martin Strandzl, and Dante. He finished fourth in the Bundesliga and secured a berth to the UEFA Champions League. In the end, his move to Dortmund was confirmed in January 2012.

Reus, who transferred to Dortmund, remained a legend of the club. He led Dortmund to the Champions League final with 19 goals and 13 assists in 49 matches in his first season, and he won his first trophy for Dortmund with multiple goals and one assist in the DFL-Super Cup against Bayern Munich in 2013-14. In 2013-14, Reus set a career high with 23 goals and 20 assists in 44 matches. 

During the 2016-17 season, he lifted a major trophy for the first time. Reus won the DFB-Pokal Trophy. In the event, Reus suffered serious injuries, including a partial rupture of his cruciate ligament, but impressed fans with great excitement at the championship ceremony and bus parade. 

In 2019, he won the “2019 Germany Player of the Year” and became Dortmund’s top scorer in the UEFA Champions League with a goal in the first leg of the quarter-final against Manchester City in the 2020-21 season. As captain this season as well, Reus lifted the DFB-Pokal Trophy. 

Royce signed a one-year contract with his club in April last year, having been active in Dortmund last season and this season. Therefore, he has to leave Dortmund after this season. Royce was born in 1989 and is already 34 years old. He will be 35 years old when next season begins. 

There is also a high possibility of transferring. A team that wants Royce has already appeared. Santi Auna said, “Mönchengladbach and some US MLS clubs are inquiring about recruiting Reus as a free agent.” Fans are paying keen attention to whether Reus will leave Dortmund and retire from another club.
