South Korea’s women’s basketball team leaves for Mexico to play in World Cup qualifiers
The Korean women’s basketball team left for Mexico on the 16th to participate in the FIBA World Cup preliminary qualifying tournament.
South Korea, led by head coach Park Soo-ho, will participate in the 2026 FIBA Women’s World Cup pre-qualifying tournament in Mexico City, Mexico, from the 19th.
Korea will compete with Venezuela, the Czech Republic, and Mali in Group A in turn, and will advance to the semifinals only if they finish in the top two in the group.
The FIBA ranking is 13th in Korea, 20th in Mali, 23rd in the Czech Republic, and 36th in Venezuela.
Group B consists of Mexico (45th), Montenegro (22nd), New Zealand (26th), and Mozambique (33rd), with the first team out of Group A and B qualifying for the FIBA Women’s World Cup.
The Korean team has continued its training sessions since July 10. The first round match will be held against Venezuela at 3 a.m. on July 20 in Korean time.
